Triathlete Brought Back To Life After 40 Minutes

clare careny cprA former junior world triathlon champion has today thanked her rescuers after she was amazingly revived after a total of 40 minutes. Clare Carney, received CPR and defibrillation after she suffered a life threatening cardiac arrest whilst swimming at Melbourne’s Sports & Aquatic Centre last November.

After being found floating face down in the pool, Clare was rescued by a member of the public before receiving CPR from pool lifeguards. Paramedics who later arrived at the scene continued her treatment and transported her to hospital and into the care of emergency department doctors.

Ms Carney who returned to thank her rescuers yesterday, has paid tribute to the critical chain of survival that saved her life. Bystanders, lifeguards, paramedics, fire-fighters and doctors all combined to give her the best chance of surviving her cardiac arrest. Read more – Herald Sun
