Unique Student Identifier (USI)

What is a USI?

The Unique Student Identifier or USI is a reference number provided to you by the Australian Government which

  • creates a secure online record of your recognised training and qualifications gained in Australia, even from different training organisations
  • will give you access to your training records and transcripts
  • can be accessed online, anytime and anywhere
  • is free and easy to create and
  • stays with you for life

Who Needs A USI And Why?

If you are a new or continuing student undertaking nationally recognised training and courses you need a USI in order to receive your qualification or statement of attainment. If you don’t have a USI you will not receive your qualification or statement of attainment.

Your USI will give you access to an online record of the training you have done since 1 January 2015. You will also be able to produce a comprehensive transcript of your training. This can be used when applying for a job, seeking a credit transfer or demonstrating pre-requisites when undertaking further training.

If you are an international student studying offshore and do not have an Australian passport, Australian entry visa or other Australian proof of ID required to create a USI, you do not need a USI.

…but I am not a student, Why Do I Need A USI?

A student is what the Australian Government calls a person undertaking nationally recognised training like a first aid course. It does not refer to a school, university or TAFE student. A USI is now required by all training providers by the Australian Government to issue certificates to participants that have completed nationally recognised training. If you don’t require a certificate for your course then there is no requirement to provide us your USI. If you do require a certificate, you will need to provide us your USI and USI registration details before we can issue you a certificate.
