Every year, thousands of Australians find themselves in situations where knowing basic first aid could mean the difference between life and death. A child chokes at a birthday party. A co-worker collapses at their desk. A friend has a seizure at the beach. In those first critical minutes before an ambulance arrives, the person nearest to them is all they have.
That person could be you.
The First 3 Minutes Matter Most
Medical professionals often refer to the “golden window” — the critical period immediately after a medical emergency begins. For cardiac arrest, brain damage can begin within just four to six minutes without CPR. For severe bleeding, a person can go into shock in under three minutes. First aid training gives you the skills and confidence to act fast, calmly, and correctly when it counts most.
What You’ll Learn in a First Aid Course
A quality first aid course covers far more than bandaging a cut finger. In one of our first aid courses in either Port Macquaire or Taree, you’ll learn how to perform CPR on adults, children, and infants, use an AED (automated external defibrillator), respond to choking, control heavy bleeding and treat for shock, manage burns, fractures, and sprains, recognise the signs of stroke, heart attack, and anaphylaxis, and assist someone having a seizure or asthma attack. No prior medical knowledge is required — our first aid courses are designed for everyday people, not healthcare workers.

“I Wouldn’t Know What to Do” — And That’s Exactly Why You Should Train
One of the biggest barriers to helping in an emergency is fear of doing the wrong thing. First aid training replaces that paralysis with practiced instinct. You’ll work through real-life scenarios in a supportive environment, so when the moment comes, your hands know what to do even when your mind is racing. Research consistently shows that bystanders who have first aid training are significantly more likely to intervene in an emergency — and that their intervention dramatically improves outcomes.
Who Should Get Trained?

The short answer: everyone. But first aid training is especially valuable for parents and caregivers, since accidents are the leading cause of injury in children under 14. Teachers, coaches, and youth workers benefit greatly, as do office managers and team leaders — many workplaces are legally required to have trained first aiders on site. Outdoor enthusiasts like hikers, surfers, and campers are often far from help, and anyone living with a person who has a known health condition should also consider training a priority.
Certification Is Easier Than You Think
Our first aid courses take only two hours to complete (with some additional online learning) and are valid for three years, with CPR renewed annually. Courses are available during the week and on weekends.
Take the First Step
You don’t need a medical degree to save a life. You need training, confidence, and the willingness to act. Whether you’re a complete beginner or looking to refresh a lapsed certificate, there’s never been a better time to get trained.
