5yr old boy receives bravery award

young-boy dialling 000A five-year-old Charlestown boy will today be recognised for his brave actions in calling ‘000’. In November last year Mel Welham passed out in her kitchen, hitting her head and becoming unconscious.

Her son Myles will today be presented with a NSW Ambulance Star Award for calling emergency services and getting help to his mum. The five-year-old not only called an ambulance he also organised a babysitter as back-up care.

Acting assistant control manager Tim Blake says the situation could have been much worse if Myles did not call triple zero.

“By the sounds of it mum was quite unwell at the time and who would know what the outcome could have been without Myles,” he said.
