A Real-Life Reminder of the Importance of First Aid Training

On the morning of Monday, 9 June 2025, a 40-year-old man experienced a cardiac arrest at Anytime Fitness located in Warringah Mall, Brookvale. As the Northern Beaches Advocate report, at approximately 10:00 am, gym staff discovered the man unresponsive and immediately initiated cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). They also utilised the gym’s on-site Automated External Defibrillator (AED), delivering three shocks in an effort to revive him.

Emergency services were promptly contacted, and three NSW Ambulance crews, including Intensive Care Paramedics and NSW Ambulance Inspector Kylie O’Brien, arrived at the scene shortly after 10:15 am. Upon their arrival, paramedics confirmed that the man had suffered a cardiac arrest. Thanks to the swift actions of the gym staff, his pulse and breathing had been restored prior to their arrival. Paramedics continued to provide advanced care before transporting him to Northern Beaches Hospital just after 10:45 am, where he was admitted in a critical condition.
