CPR Survival Rates Improving

A number of recent studies have shown that survival rates for cardiac arrest are on the improve. A Japanese study found that mortality rates for out of hospital cardiac arrest have decreased dramatically partly due the greater availability of public access defibrillators. An American study has also found that in hospital survival rates are also improving. The study found positive trends for both survival and neurologic outcomes for patients.

Twitter Used For CPR Info

Forget attending a CPR course, a recent study has shown that people are now using social networking platforms like Twitter to learn about about resuscitation and cardiac arrest. The study found that users are regularly turning to Twitter for information on such things as performing CPR, using a defibrillator (AED), resuscitation research and news, as well as information about specific resuscitation events. NSW Public Schools Required To Stock Epipens

Public schools across NSW will now be required to keep an adrenaline auto-injector on hand, for the use in the event of an anaphylactic reaction. Previously, the provision of the auto-injectors like Epipens and Anapens had typically been soley the responsibility of parents. Now the NSW Department of Education and Communities will require schools to store a general use adrenaline auto-injector as part of their first aid kit. The policy states that this could be used as a backup or for the use on a previously undiagnosed student having a first episode of anaphylaxis. Full Policy
