Forster Funnel-web Spider Warning

funnel webThe Great Lakes Advocate has reported on a rise of Funnel Web Spider numbers in Forster and the Great Lakes region. The newspaper indicates residents have reported growing numbers of the deadly spider inside and around their homes.

The signs and symptoms of a Funnel Web envemonation can include pain at the bite site, tingling around the mouth, profuse sweating, abdominal pain, muscular twitching, and breathing difficulty leading to unconsciousness (ARC).

The Australian Resuscitation Council recommends that the First Aid for Funnel Web spider bites should include Basic Life Support (DRSABCD), applying a Pressure Immobilisation bandage immediately and for an ambulance to be called (000) as soon as possible.
