Mobile Triple Zero Callers – Location Unknown?

triple 0The potentially life saving location details of mobile phone Triple ‘0’ callers are not being provided, reports Sydney Morning Herald. Over one million triple zero calls are said to be made on a mobile phone, each year. However, unlike landline based calls, the call-location details are not provided by phone carriers to Emergency Services.

Mobile phone call-location technology does exist as seen in the US and Canada where carriers have been providing such services for years. It appears, that a lack of financial or regulatory incentive may be holding back the technology being brought to Australia.

Emergency Services Telecommunications Authority general manager Andrew Wellwood has said.”We don’t want to find ourselves in a situation where someone dies because we are not able to locate them,”
